Privacy
- No accounts, no email. ComputerDealer.us does not ask for your name, email or phone for any feature.
- A check stores nothing. What you type is used to answer that one request. A check result is a plain link (the details are in the address), so your browser history and the web server's access log hold it like any other page address. Do not type anything private into a check.
- A shortlist stores the listings you save (the details you typed, your notes, the price) with the dates they changed. The shortlist key is stored only as a one-way hash. One cookie (
__Host-cd_shortlist) keeps the shortlist open in your browser; one more (__Host-cd_csrf) protects forms. - Making a shortlist counts against a daily limit per internet address; the address is kept only as a salted hash, used for that day's count and deleted within 3 days.
- Server logs (address, page, time, browser) are kept by the web server for security and are deleted on the host's normal schedule.
- Deleting a shortlist removes it and its listings at once. Copies of the database made before that go too: the nightly backups are overwritten within 14 days, and the copies of the database taken when the site software is updated are deleted from the server within 30 days. An off-server copy of those database copies is kept by WeldonPC for disaster recovery and may last longer; it is never used for anything else.
- A shortlist nobody opens for 400 days, and with no running Pass, is deleted.
- No tracking cookies, no analytics services, nothing sold or shared. The only outside service any page loads is the banner from adengine.us on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total. When checkout opens, PayPal handles payment details; we receive only the subscription status.
Advertising
The public pages of ComputerDealer.us (home, Check a listing, Before you buy, Pricing and About) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Shortlist pages, the printable check, this page, the terms and error pages show no ad. The ad never changes a check result.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It gets only the site's address, never a check's page address with the listing details in it.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
